I am new to photography and got my brother's Canon Rebel XT 350D?

What is a good lens to take nice crisp sports action shots? I keep hearing about the Canon 70-200 f/4L but that is quite expensive. Is it worth putting that kind of a lens on my older 8MP camera or will the older camera trump the lens? What type of lens would you recommend...this is for my son's baseball games.
