Chico, California - pro and contra (please I really need your advice)?

Hello! I am a transfer student coming to Chico, CA. I've never been in Chico before, and I'd want to know what is it like living in there. I'm especially interested about three things: Firstly, I am very serious about my studies and need to pursue my career goals. Is it possible to find an apartment or a room in a quiet neighborhood so as to have the possibility just to study and live calmly, not being disturbed by noise, etc.? What districts are good and what are better to be avoided? Secondly, I've heard it is hard to live in Chico for people prone to allergies. Can't someone explain me why? And what about the climate? Is it really so hot there? Thirdly, are there any good food markets and shops? I'd be extremely grateful for any relevant info and opinions. Thank you in advance.
