Active speakers giving out weird crackling sound. Please help?

You said "It is definitely not pick-up gain because it still gives the crackling noise even without any input attached" - you troubleshot this yourself just right. If it is acting up with no input attached, the problem is the speaker itself. It may need repair or replacement. Sorry.
